Meet Quasar Alpha: The Mystery AI Model Outpacing Industry Giants

It all started with this tweet that came up on my feed. OpenRouter.ai – I haven’t used OpenRouter much, but I did have an account there. So I immediately went to it to try this out. What’s interesting about OpenRouter is that, in some cases, it lets you chat completely for free with AI models. This particular model, Quasar Alpha, which is on par with—if not better than—some of the best foundational models I’ve tested, is currently in stealth mode. We don’t know which company created it. Still, it’s making waves in AI circles on X thanks to its generous 1M token input window and a reasonable 35k token max output window. ...

Major AI Updates March 2025: ChatGPT 4o Images, Gemini 2.5 Pro & Claude Web Search

It continues to be quite overwhelming to keep following all the updates in AI. It’s both exciting and stressful because just when you think you’re going to have a quiet week, all the major AI providers release significant updates that rock the entire world that you previously knew. Here are the biggest AI updates that have happened in the last few weeks, with sources so you can learn more about each innovation: ...

Wispr Flow: How I Started Typing at 170 WPM (And You Can Too)

Wispr Flow has completely changed the way I work. It began with their Mac app: you simply press a hotkey, speak naturally, and your words appear almost instantly with remarkable accuracy. It reminds me of Dragon NaturallySpeaking from the early 2000s—exciting but never quite delivering its full promise. Wispr Flow fulfills that promise and more. How to 10x Claude with MCP

Update 3/31/2025: I have made changes to my MCP setup since posting this. I open-sourced the changes here . Anthropic launched the open-source MCP (Model Context Protocol) on 11/25/24 and it’s a total game-changer! This kicked off a fundamental shift in how technology connects – similar to how we evolved from physical network connections to APIs, we’re now moving to automatic connections between systems using AI. Box Breathing App

Here’s a little micro app I put together as part of my latest vibe coding experiment—it’s designed to help you learn the box breathing technique. If you’re not familiar, box breathing is a simple, powerful method used by Navy SEALs to relax quickly and fall asleep fast. There’s actually some solid science backing its effectiveness! I integrated the ElevenLabs voice API to handle the audio instructions. Sound editing turned out to be trickier than expected, even with AI-generated audio. While there’s definitely room to grow and refine, I’m pretty happy with this starting point. ...

Future of 529 Plans: Paying for AI Tutors & Micro-Credentials

Imagine this: It’s January 2035. You open your son or daughter’s tuition bill, but instead of credit hours, you see charges for “compute hours” and a list of blockchain-verified micro-credentials. This is the potential future of higher education as AI revolutionizes education. The shift is on - from textbooks and lecture halls to computing hours, personalized AI tutors, and human-guided mentorship. Do you prefer to listen instead of read like me? Unexplained Drone Sightings: Could Quantum Tech Be Hiding in Plain Sight?

Do you prefer to listen instead of read like me? Lucky for you I used NotebookLM to create a podcast out of this post. Listen below. Listen to this post Your browser does not support the audio element. Google recently made headlines with the Willow quantum chip ( Google’s Announcement )—a tangible sign that we’re edging closer to a new era in computing. While this news is exciting on its own, it got me thinking about the recent surge in drone/UAP sightings lighting up social media. While most sightings are likely just conventional drones, misidentified aircraft, or recycled footage, it’s hard not to wonder: what if something more advanced is quietly taking shape above our heads, hidden in plain sight? ...

AI Microapp: Wine Geography

Prefer to listen to this idea? Here’s a NotebookLM podcast about it: Listen to this post Your browser does not support the audio element. We’re on the cusp of an exciting era in app development, where AI is making it possible to create powerful, focused apps that solve everyday problems without the complexity of traditional apps. I call these “AI Microapps,” and I believe they have the potential to disrupt incumbent players who are often slow to adopt cutting-edge AI features due to the constraints of their existing user base. ...

unifi server rack at home

Home Network Setup with UniFi Equipment

Finally, I had Cat6a wires run in my home so I could set up a proper network, including having ceiling-mount Wi-Fi access points with Cat6a backhaul. This is my first time working with UniFi, and thus far the software (iOS app, web app, etc.) is incredible. I used LLM fusion to submit all of my network hardware, wire runs, and other details to have it plan out my server rack to optimize for spacing, cooling, and wire management. Quite happy with the end result. ...
