the simplest narrative I have seen to explain tokens, nfts, and crypto:
- web 1.0 was read-only
- web 2.0 was read/write
- web 3.0 is read/write/own
traditional web 2.0 platforms like reddit, twitter, facebook, and instagram own your friendships, messages, connections, ad views, and data. they provide use of their platform in return.
the next era of apps will use tokens to bootstrap new networks, giving users the ability to own their data and take it with them to whichever app or network best fits their needs. this is not possible without the use of the blockchain.
if this sounds interesting, i strongly recommend reading Read Write Own by Chris Dixon .
